Pearl | liquid transmission analysis

The Pearl™ is a high-performance liquid transmission accessory designed for near and mid-infrared laboratory spectroscopy. It incorporates Specac’s innovative Oyster Cell assembly, which holds samples in a horizontal plane, enabling rapid and easy sample application and cleaning, thereby significantly enhancing sample throughput.

The accessory allows for highly reproducible pathlengths with an accuracy within 1 μm when assembling and disassembling the Oyster Cell. Interchangeable ZnSe or CaF2 windows are available in six pathlengths ranging from 25 to 1000 μm. Both wedged and parallel window options are offered to optimize spectral quality depending on measurement requirements.

Features and Purposes
  • Pathlength reproducibility within 1 μm due to innovative Oyster Cell design
  • Interchangeable ZnSe or CaF2 windows covering spectral ranges of 20,000–500 cm⁻¹ (ZnSe) and 50,000–1,180 cm⁻¹ (CaF2)
  • Available pathlengths: 25, 50, 100, 200, 500, and 1000 μm
  • Option for wedged or parallel windows: parallel cells allow pathlength calculation via interference fringes; wedged cells minimize interfering spectral fringes
  • Constructed from corrosion-resistant stainless steel; ZnSe suitable for pH 5.0–9.0, CaF2 resistant to acids/bases but sensitive to certain acids (e.g. reacts with sulfuric acid)
  • Horizontal design prevents sample leakage and enables high throughput analysis especially for viscous and volatile samples
  • Oyster Cell includes an injection port for volatile or difficult-to-load samples
  • Compatible with multiple standards including EN 14078 and various ASTM methods (ASTM D7418, D7412, D7414, D7415, D7624, E2412)
