Starna SF Series Polymer Block References

The Starna SF Series consists of polymer blocks doped with organic fluorescent compounds exhibiting excitation and emission properties spanning visible and near-infrared (NIR) wavelengths. These references enable routine performance qualification of fluorescence spectrophotometers and fluorimeters, compatible with both continuous-source and flash-source instruments.

The fluorescence materials are incorporated into a solid polymer matrix, preventing solvent evaporation and providing excellent long-term stability due to resistance against photodecomposition and bleaching under typical operating conditions. This broad spectral range allows the selection of references with spectral characteristics closely matching those of the analyte, facilitating spectral overlap and measurable signals without altering slit widths or wavelength settings.

Features and Purposes
  • Available in various physical formats: standard rectangular block (12.5 mm x 12.5 mm x 45 mm) and microscope slide format (10 mm diameter polymer disc in metallic slide)
  • Typical excitation wavelength ranges from 280 nm to 700 nm, covering visible to NIR spectra
  • Peak excitation/emission pairs for compounds:
    • Blue: 378 nm excitation / 427 nm emission
    • Green: 476 nm excitation / 485 nm emission
    • Orange: 532 nm excitation / 534 nm emission
    • Red: 579 nm excitation / 593 nm emission
    • IR1: 668 nm excitation / 670 nm emission
  • Certified spectral correction available with NIST SRM 294X series traceability for scanning instruments
  • Designed for use in conventional spectrofluorometers and specialized applications including microscopy and PCR instrumentation
  • Solid polymer matrix ensures no solvent evaporation and high photostability
