6BF Series Polymer Block References

The Starna 6BF Series comprises six polymer blocks embedded with seven fluorescent compounds, designed for routine calibration, comparison, and performance monitoring of fluorescence spectrophotometers. The solid matrix is made of polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), offering long-term stability without solvent evaporation.

The embedded fluorophores cover a broad spectral range with excitation wavelengths spanning from 260 to 600 nm and emission wavelengths from 370 to 630 nm. This wide spectral coverage allows selection of reference materials with spectral properties closely matching various analytes, enabling measurable signals without altering important instrument parameters such as slit widths or wavelength settings.

Features and Purposes
  • Contains seven fluorescent compounds: Anthracene, Naphthalene, Ovalene, p-Terphenyl, Tetraphenylbutadiene, Compound 610, and Rhodamine B
  • Excitation range: 260–600 nm; Emission range: 370–630 nm
  • Approximate molar concentrations range from 2×10-7 to 6×10-5 mol/L depending on compound
  • Peak excitation wavelengths from 290 to 562 nm and peak emission wavelengths from 330 to 573 nm
  • PMMA solid matrix ensures no solvent evaporation and high dimensional and chemical stability
  • Compounds cited in USP chapter for wavelength validation (p-Terphenyl, Ovalene, Tetraphenylbutadiene, and Anthracene)
  • Available as individual blocks or as a set of six PMMA fluorescence references (catalogue numbers 6BF-STD/1 to 6BF-STD/6)
